Soapstone Trinket Box Delicate Carved Detail

This richly hued soapstone box is handmade by a Tuareg artist from Agadez, Niger. The artist fireburned this box to achieve its wonderful wood-like finish. You can still smell the pleasant residual smoke. This box is exceptionally decorated with delicately carved lines in a traditional etched design.

The Tuareg people are a semi-nomadic Muslim people who have mostly lived along the southern edge of the Sahara in Africa. They have a rich culture and a significant traditional style of artistry.

The overall length of this box is 4 inches, the width is 2.5 inches, and the height with lid is almost 1.75 inches. A very special and unique handmade creation.
