Prehnite is a silicate mineral that is mostly translucent with tiny dark spots of naturally occurring inclusions. It is found in the Jeffrey Mine, Quebec, Canada and initially in Eastern Cape Province, South Africa. Here it was named for Colonel Hendrik Von Prehn who commanded the region at the time of its discovery from 1768 to 1780.
