Ceremonial Oil Lamp for Puja Diya Aarti
Cast brass handheld oil lamp, or diya, used in the Hindu divine light ritual known as the puja. Within the puja is a ceremony known as 'aarti' giving honor with fire. Wicks soaked in ghee or oil are lit and offered to a diety. This ritual includes songs sung in praise.
“The essence of the aarti is that all day long God offers us light. The light of the sun, the light of life, and the light of His, or Her blessings. Aarti is a time when we say 'Thank you,' and we offer back the light of our thanks, the light of our love and light of our devotion.” As written, Parmarth Niketan website.
This heavy brass, ornately detailed diya is 9.5 inches long, 3.5 inches at its widest, and just under 1 inch high. It makes an interesting ornament, or wall hanging. It also would be a lovely way to give thanks and praise for all the blessings in our lives. Don't forget to count them!
